Zip File Corruption on IIS Server and Zip Recovery

Microsoft Share Point is a solicitation of products and the software elements, which include IE (Internet Explorer) based collaboration features. Using Share Point, you can easily create custom views of the websites easily. The customization could be different, depending upon the type and version of product, which you have installed. The share point has a number of advantages such as collaboration with MS Office, aggregation capabilities, ad-hoc data storage, browser based page customization, document storehouse and many alike. But in some situations, if you store Zip file on share point server, the files may get damaged and can not be extracted when you download and try to access them. This behavior of Zip file cause data loss and require Zip Recovery to be sorted out.

In most of the cases, it has been seen that when you place a Zip file in the Documents libraries on share point portal server and then download the file, it gets damaged. Because the Zip files are being used on the share point, then this is assumed that the cause of corruption is related to this only. But in fact, this it not the actually cause of corruption. The reason is related to the IIS (Internet Information Server). The IIS is a group of servers, which include HTTP and FTP server with additional abilities over Windows based servers. Improper settings of the IIS server could lead to Zip file corruption and you need to opt for zip repair to sort out the issue.

Following are some important steps, which you should take to correct IIS settings:
  • Choose Start and select Programs option. .Start Internet Service Manager on Web Front End Servers in administrative tools option.
  • Right click web server name and select properties.
  • Change the MIME type association. In list, you would find Zip file type as the Application/x-zip-compressed. You need to modify it to the Application/octet-stream.
  • Reset IIS using iisrest command in command prompt.
  • If the Zip file already damaged, then repair zip file solutions are required to repair and restore the damaged file. This is best possible is with the help of powerful and advanced third party applications, which are capable of handling most of such issues.
